Back Again

SO, today we leave the beautiful beachfront and head back inland to where we started.
It's been great here in Samara, playing on the beach, river walking, waterfalls, lots of great meals together and just lounging by the pool side. The days have gone by fast.
the drive is about 4 hours (we hope) of mountains and coffee. It should be lovely. Then we have Wednesday to hang and get organized enough for the airport. It's amazing how much two back packs worth of 'stuff' can spread out so much.
We have all had a great time. The kids have met friends along the way almost everyday. It's been the trip of a life time for sure.
I'll post all the photos when we get home....there are LOTS.
Love to everyone. Thanks for following the Blog.

Samara

What a sweet little town this is. We are on the pacific coast staying with friends of ours. Their house is beautiful! The girls are enjoying just hanging around, Making lots of fresh fruit smoothies and swimming everyday by at least 9:00am. The sun comes up around 6:00, so does the rest of Costa Rica it seems. The monkeys (mono) also get up early and are so entertaining to watch. Lots of little babies swinging around. Otherwise, nothing really exciting to report. We are staring to prepare our selves for the return trip home. We have just over a week left. The days are going by faster and faster it seems.
We did manage to get a Christmas tree together for the kids. We painted palm nuts and sea shells to hang. It's been interesting how little it feels like the holiday season when it's so warm??
We have made Friends with a great local guy named Afro. He doesn't speak any english, but is great with helping us understand spanish, and we seem to end up hysterically laughing by the end of any conversation. He is a great fisherman, and brought us 8 lobsters and a huge fillet of tuna. That will be dinner tonight! We are going fishing with him on Saturday. Yumm.
There is a huge festival that happens the day after Christmas in town. The main attraction is Bull riding! It sounds like it's teh event of the year here!
That's all for now. Samara is by far the nicest place we've been so far. It's been a great place to land for the week.
Merry Christmas. Feliz Navidad!!!!

Montezuma

We left Tamarindo and headed south on what we again thought to be a two hour trip.......that turned 5. We hit a strip of road (if you can call it that) that was the worst by far, dirt road i have ever been on. It took us 2 hours to make 12 miles!!! It was so rough you couldn´t even wear your seat belt. We did finally make it though and the girls were so good, never complaining at all. The ocean views were spectacular.
This town is a cute little hippy town. We found a great place right on the beach. Two stories of all hard wood, walls, floors, doors, huge windows that open up for an almost 360 view. There is a loft for the girls with large bay type windows that open up to the trees. We have two iguans that live on the roof next door and a caro blanco monkey that keeps hanging around.
We had breakfast at a little cafe yeasterday, that had at least 6 of these little monkeys hanging out and eating with us. One mama with a very little new born baby hanging on her back...Amazing that they hang on! One jumped on the table right next to ´Sundari, took the napkins out of the holder, held them up, laughed a little and threw them on the ground. The girls were craking up. that seemed to get the monkeys going and the one male started jumping up and down looking right at them, opening and shuting his mouth, which of course made them laugh harder.....so on and on it went. it was the best Ç5000 ($10) coffee we have ever had!
Today got even better. WE went to rain song, an animal rescue type place. It is very small. They say they only get one visitor a day. today it was us. The first thing they broungt us to was a caro blanco monkey named Tarzan. we watched through the gate for a few. this little guy was reaching out and holding our hands...how sweet. Then out guide asked us if we wanted to go in!! It was crazy. He was jumping all over us, swinging around my neck, pulling skylers hair, jumping form micheal to me and bitting my arms! It didn´t really hurt, more like a pinch but he was really all over me. he wasn´t as interested in the kids. Wait until you see the photos!! We also got to hold an anteater. Also amazing, We visited a porcipine! Who climped right up my arm...When I asked the guide if he held him he said "no i´m a little afraid of him" Well!!! get him off of me then!! although he was pretty sweet just heavy and hard to handle because of the pines! We got to sit , pet and feed two very small baby deer, and the list goes on. So sorry I can´t add photos!
After that we headed to a sweet waterfall and enjoyed another lunch of beans and rice. We arn´t tired if it yet!
So tomorrow we head back up north to Samara. we are thinking about taking a car ferry back to avoid the long drive....we will see how that goes!
Thats all for now!
Peace and warm Latin American blessings!

The Beach

Ahhhh the beach in December, what else do I have to say. A big change from the wet jungle Tamarindo is a beach lovers paradise. After an hour of circleing dusty roads we found of Pueblo Colonial where we meet up with Bill and Jaynene. Our house is perfect and cute with a pool, ac,tv, kitchen, the works. We've scoped out the best beaches in the area. Playa Flamingo is about 15 minutes away and has simple spots to pull in your car, plenty of shade and a nice little surf break to body surf and boogie. The one that tops them all is Playa Conchal since you actually have to cross a river and drive on the beach to get there. Yahoooo! After the adventure you are rewarded with a nice white sand beach and a couple of vendors selling grilled meats and cold beer. The girls hooked up with a couple of Tico kids on vacation and played all day long even though they couldn't understand each other.
We did make it out for the late night at least once while we had "the babysiters".....Thursday Reggae at Babylon Bar. we thought there might be a few people out and were surprised when the place was packed. There was a great DJ, lots of dancing, and if you got tired of that you could skateboard in the back.
Micheal has been out spotting monkeys on his early morning walk......and this morning at about 5:30am we fianlly convinced my mom that the monkey were real! They were right out side her bed room window making the loudest sounds!! I still can't believe it could be so loud. Howler Monkeys....about the size of a medium dog, but they sound like gorillas!! There were about 8 of them hanging around.
So tomorrow we are off on the next adventure. Heading south to the very tip of the penninsula de Nicoya. Looking forward to a few more (20 or so) days on the beach!!

Lots of love to every one.

around the lake and over the hills

It's a beautiful morning, still raining in the jungle, but there is hope of blue sky.WE drove around lake arenal today and saw a Toucan and a large family of Pizotes, some thing between and anteater and a monkey. very cute and curious about cars. They stoped traffic for a good five min.

Once through the mountains we made it to the Beach! Playa del coco wa our first stop, cold beer and a few monkeys greeted us on the sand. /not to mention a 3 foot iguana who really wanted the girls beans! To funny. We stayed in a not so nice hostel and we were ready to head south to Tamarindo early this morning. A sweet little beach town, famous in endless summer two, for it's nice smooth rolling waves. Easy to ride, and fun to splash around in. Our place here is nice with a pool and water falls all over. So we will be here for a week and then on ward. It's nice to un pack and be able to leave it un packed for a few days.

We are all doing great, the girls are having fun!
I'll try and add pictures next time!

love, love
Adios!

Arilapa to La Fortuna

The 3 hour drive turned to six as we drove around and through the smallest little coffee towns, up mountain roads, behind huge trucks, avoiding mud slides left and right and of course trying to find some where to stop and pee in between! We stoped to ask directions 10 times , and the girls counted 21 stray dogs along the way. WE did finally make our way into this sweet little town, we parted ways with our new found friends with plans to meet up tomorrow. and then off again on another search for our next hostel. Unfortunately, when we found it they had booked our room wrong.....and we were looking at the smallest room with only one bed! We worked our way out of having to pay for the night and headed up the hill to try and meet back up with eh two other couples we are traveling with. They were going to splurge and stay at Tabacon a 5 star resort with the most amazing hot springs. We already had passes for the springs for the next day, so though we would put that toward the room and enjoy the night. The room was nothing compared to the water!! This is the most amazing place I have ever been on earth! It is a HUGE river flowing like crazy, pooling off into sweet little and big springs all over the place. THe best part...this river is 100 degrees. Steam is all around you the canopy of the rainforest in all mist, and you are at the base of one very large, very active volcano! Pure bliss.
WE stayed and enjoyed the springs for the night and most of the next day. Then we all headed out and found a great local place to stay for 20$ a night. Kayna, our local friend car/a/vanning with us, cooked us an amazing costa rican dinner of rice and beans, platanos, and pina fresca! YUm.
We slept well and headed off again the next morning on another adventure!
